Hi! I’m Gwen
Gwendolyn Juleus is a retired military officer turned Financial Empowerment Coach for women, founder of Position Yourself For Wealth, and host of the Manage Money Build Wealth podcast.
Gwendolyn’s mission is to help Generation X Black career women to build wealth by taking control of their money. She is someone who grew up in poverty… in small rural towns in Alabama…. But yet, she managed to reach F.I.R.E. (financially independent, retire early) by the age of 40!
And she is able to live that lifestyle….because she is EMPOWERED when it comes to her money, meaning that she has a sustainable financial foundation that she can build wealth on! And she desires this for other women!
My Money Story
Hi! I’m Gwen and personal finance is my passion. Wanna know why? Because I grew up poor. Money was always a problem for my family and I just did not want that for myself. So! I became obsessed with learning about personal finance. I read any and everything that pertained to money, I watched any show that related to money, and I listened to any opportunity about money.
I grew up watching my father struggle week to week just to feed our family. My father is a great and honorable man, but one of the phrases that I always remember him saying (even into my adult life) was “ain’t got no money”. I did not want this to be my narrative and it doesn’t have to be your narrative either!
I believe that we can all manage our own money. My goal is to start with the basics and help you build a solid financial foundation. I want to take the scariness out of the topic of money and show you how you can take control of your finances just by following a few simple financial strategies.
My money journey began when my friend, Sheila, and I were hanging out with her older sister, Sherry, on a Saturday. We were 16-year-old high school sophomores and Sherry worked part-time as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for a local hospital, she was a college student, and (if I remember correctly) she had another full-time job! Sherry had money to buy us breakfast that morning, she paid for lunch, she shopped at the mall that day, I saw her get cash out of an ATM machine, AND I saw her use a credit card. I wanted to be like Sherry because, until that moment, I did not know that having that type of access to money was possible– I was VERY impressed!!
That morning with Sherry changed something inside of me. It gave me hope that I could have a better financial life than I was currently living back then. That was more than 25 years ago and eventually, I developed a lifestyle similar to Sherry’s.
However, it was not without big and small financial mistakes along the way. So although my youth was lived in poverty, I came out of that and excelled in my life, and now I plan to really soar and live the life that I have always envisioned for myself. My vision and dreams have changed as my life has changed but I believe that I can do anything that I put my mind to and have anything that I say!
